The Animal Welfare Approved program and food label promote the well-being of animals and the sustainability of humane family farms. We unite conscientious consumers with farmers who raise their animals with compassion. Animal Welfare Approved was recently lauded by the World Society for the Protection of Animals as having the highest animal welfare standards of all third-party certifiers that include:

  • The only free nonprofit animal welfare certification program
  • USDA approved
  • For independent family farmers and cooperatives of family farmers
  • The only accreditation program offering grants to farmers
  • The only pasture- and range-based program
  • A program recently recognized by the World Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals as having the highest standards of all third-party certification programs

American Grassfed Association protects and promotes true grassfed producers & grassfed products through national communication, education, research and marketing efforts. When you choose grassfed products, you are choosing products that are:

  • Better for the animals...eating (in the pasture) what nature intended
  • Better for the environment...harmony between the land & the animals
  • Better for farmers/ranchers...living & working in a healthy sustainable atmosphere
  • Better food...grassfed foods are lower in saturated fats & higher in essential nutrients
  • Better for you...nutritious grassfed foods support better overall health.

“The GLA supplies locally produced grassfed meats to the Southwest Region of Whole Foods Market. Its goal is to provide a fair market for family owned and operated farms that stake their reputation on the quality of beef they produce. Animals marketed by the GLA are raised using the American Grassfed Association protocol. The GLA requires traceability from birth to harvest without administering antibiotics or growth hormones. Confinement and feeding animal by-products are also prohibited. Cattle are handled with utmost care."
